Effective signage in healthcare settings is crucial. Hospitals and medical centers are often huge, and getting lost is a top complaint. Visitors, whether they are patients or visiting someone, are usually anxious and concerned about quickly finding their way to a specific destination. When your facility’s signage systems work seamlessly, you can provide these visitors with peace of mind.
Healthcare Wayfinding Signage
Wayfinding, a specialty of L&H Sign Company, is the art and science of putting the right information in the right places to help visitors navigate easily through confusing environments – to help them understand where they are and where they are headed. They contribute to a sense of well-being, safety, and security, and are of particular value in hospitals and medical centers where it’s easy to become lost or disoriented.
Here are several examples of health care interior and exterior wayfinding or directional signage we have designed and implemented:
- Doylestown Hospital
Doylestown Hospital in Philadelphia was a comprehensive design-build project. L&H Sign Company designed the theme with copper and slate accents, and expanded it into exterior monument signage, vehicular and pedestrian wayfinding signage, and interior pedestrian wayfinding signage.
- Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center
Corbin Design and L&H Sign Company collaborated on the extensive vehicular and exterior pedestrian wayfinding signage for this medical center in Central Pennsylvania to enhance and improve their visitor and patient experience.
Hospital Entrance Signs
Monument signage is large, permanent, freestanding, and not affixed to a building. These exterior signs are usually placed strategically near building entrances but also serve as wayfinding tools for facilities that are set back from the road.
- St. Luke’s Hospital
On a 500-acre campus in Easton, PA, where the hospital sits hundreds of yards away from the road, large scale gateway signage was vital in order to identify the facility from the road entrance. L&H Sign Company designed dimensional monument signage at the new Richard A. Anderson Riverside campus to incorporate a water and waves theme with multiple levels and curves.
- Nationwide Children’s Hospital
The facility’s branding utilizes butterflies to emphasize its service as a national leader in pediatric care. Working with Formation Design and MSI design, L&H Sign Company beautifully executed the theme’s dimensional butterflies, lettering and illumination color on the all of the exterior signage.
Interior and Patient Care Signage
The interior of a hospital or medical center can be a confusing maze. Studies have shown that visitors who are not directed every 30 feet, or at least reassured that they’re heading in the right direction, will stop and ask an employee for help. Effective interior wayfinding signs will help your visitors find their way and free your staff of constant interruptions.
Another issue in hospitals is patient safety and caregiver communication. L&H Sign Company offers the patent pending Patient Care Sign, an ADA-compliant and fully customizable system designed to meet the needs of your healthcare facility. Because our evidence-based design is so efficient, these signs help reduce nurse stress and extra footsteps and improve morale. They are also essential for reducing patient safety risks and infectious disease hazards.
- Guthrie Health
Guthrie Health installed our innovative Patient Care Signs in three New York and Pennsylvania hospitals – Troy Community Hospital, Robert Packer Hospital, and Corning Hospital – with great success. The user-friendly patient safety signage provides assistance in patient rooms, exam rooms, ICU rooms, triage and trauma rooms.
- Chester County Hospital
The new tower in this West Chester, PA hospital needed a variety of solutions. L&H Sign Company designed a complete sign family which included overhead directory signage, hospital donor signage, evacuation map signs, signs for patient rooms and emergency exit signs.
